Curriculum Goals for 2 year olds

At Hearts and Hands Preschool, our curriculum is designed with a singular goal:
To empower young minds for a future of success and fulfillment. We go beyond traditional education, fostering a love for learning, building character, and instilling a sense of curiosity. With a blend of academic excellence, creative exploration, and values-driven teachings, our curriculum is a roadmap for the holistic development of each child.
Basics:
Responds to being called by their first name.
Beginning to speak clearly enough so that people other than their own family and friends can understand them.
Feeds themselves by beginning to use a fork or a spoon. Eats finger food successfully and drinks from a normal cup.
Beginning potty training and asking the teacher to go when urges arise.
Learning to flush the toilet & how to wipe themselves.
Learning to wash hands & face.
Learning to carry their own belongings to & from school putting them in their proper place.
Learning to be comfortable being away from their parents or caregiver.
Learning to be comfortable being with the teacher and other children.
Learning to understand in school it’s important to listen to the teacher.
Learning to throw garbage away in the garbage can.
Learning how to dress and undress themselves, take their shoes off, and put their shoes on.
Social Skills:
Beginning to understand that other people have rights and feelings just as they do.
Learning how not to be egocentric.
Can sit quietly for at least 5 minutes.
Plays with a toy, concentrate on a task, listens to a story with a toy, plays with others, and sits on a chair while eating.
Plays peacefully with other children, parallel playing, taking turns, & sharing.
Beginning to learn how to use their words effectively to communicate.
Learning how to stay on their nap mat calm and quiet.
Learning the difference between happy, sad, & mad.
Academic Skills:
Begin to appropriately use crayons, markers, glue, paint, and scissors.
Introduction to the alphabet.
Introduction to numbers 1-10.
Counting to 10 but encouraged to count higher.
Beginning to recognize the colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, black, brown, grey, & white.
Beginning to recognize first name written.
Look at a picture and tell you what it is, i.e., animals, shapes, colors, etc.
Beginning to recognize the difference between letters and numbers.
Language Development:
Beginning to use language effectively to express wants and needs.
Learning to speak and use words rather than pointing or making noise.
Using please and thank you.
Speaks in sentences using up to 5 words.
Recognizes familiar sounds.
Beginning to ask questions.
Enjoys sharing information and telling stories.
Learns songs through repetition.
Motor Development:
Gaining control over large motor skills by walking, beginning to run, hopping, climbing, and riding a bike.
Learning to form a line, hold rings, & follow the leader.
Developing greater use of small motor skills by learning to rip paper, control a spoon & fork, feed themselves by hand, begin coloring, picking up objects, etc.
Begin tracing shapes, letters, lines, numbers, etc.
Learning how to control & manipulate a pencil, crayon, paint brush, marker, etc.
Science:
Exploring different areas of discovery in physical, biological, and environmental sciences.
Experiment in different areas of discovery in physical, biological, and environmental sciences.
Process and think about the world around them.
Questions asked, observations made, & conclusions discovered about various topics and experiments.
Spiritual Development:
Listens to short Bible truths in story format.
Listens to and learns to sing Bible songs.
Learning God is the creator of all things.
Prays before meals, during circle, & for friends.
Learning about God’s love for us.
