Curriculum Goals for Kindergarten-Prep.

At Hearts and Hands Preschool, our curriculum is designed with a singular goal:
To empower young minds for a future of success and fulfillment. We go beyond traditional education, fostering a love for learning, building character, and instilling a sense of curiosity. With a blend of academic excellence, creative exploration, and values-driven teachings, our curriculum is a roadmap for the holistic development of each child.

 Basics:

  • Knows first & last name, age, gender, birthday, and phone number.

  • Speaks clearly so people other than their own family and friends can understand them.

  • Feeds themselves neatly using a fork or a spoon.

  • Cleans up messes, food, and toys.

  • Uses the restroom without help, flushes the toilet, wipes themselves, and remembers to wash hands & face.

  • Is comfortable being away from parent or caregiver and is confident with teacher & peers.

  • Understands that in school, it is important to listen to the teacher.

  • Carries belongings to and from school and puts them in their proper place.

  • Knows classroom routine and schedule.

  • Able to get their own lunchbox, set out food, and open lunch items.

  • Knows to eat healthy food first and to sit while eating.

  • Able to throw trash in the garbage can.

 

Social Skills:

  • Understands other people have rights and feelings just as they do and are not as egocentric.

  • Uses words effectively to express needs, feelings, and thoughts in a socially acceptable way.

  • Asks questions, hold a conversation, and makes eye contact when talking with teacher & others.

  • Sits quietly for at least 10 minutes.

  • Plays with a toy, concentrate on a task and listens to stories.

  • Keeps occupied with toys & manipulatives and socialize with peers without help.

  • Plays peacefully with other children, shares, listen to peers and uses conflict resolution.

  • Follow 2-3 step directions and follows class work with teacher.

  • Beginning to understand concept of games (winning/losing) and being able to play & follow rules of the game.

  • Beginning to facilitate games with peers, making rules for the games, & communicating the idea of game.

  • Able to stay on their mat calmly and quietly.

  • Knows the difference between happy, sad, and mad.

  • Says please and thank you.

  • Respects others treat other with kindness and uses manners.

 

Academic Skills:

Reading/Writing

  • Holds a pencil, crayon, marker, & paint brush, and knows how to use scissors correctly.

  • Recognizes the colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, black, brown, grey, & white.

  • Can write first name and recognize the letters in it.

  • Writing or tracing last name and learning the letters in it.

  • Knows alphabet phonics and vowel sounds.

  • Looks at a picture and can tell you what is happening in it, or make up a story about it.

  • Can read and write simple sight words.

  • Begins reading small reading books.

  • Mastering letter recognition.

  • Beginning to show logic and reasoning.

 

Math

  • Able to count at least to 30, but always encourage them to count higher.

  • Mastering numbers recognition, 1-30.

  • Recognizes 8+ shapes.

  • Creates patterns.

  • Can understand the concepts of number, size, & position. Beginning to learn about time.

  • Can arrange items or pictures into small, medium, and large.

  • Beginning to understand sequencing.

  • Can arranges items or pictures into big, bigger, and biggest, small, smaller, smallest, etc.

  • Understands ordinal numbers (1st - 5th)

  • Learning about money

  • Can add simple math problems using numbers or items (1-10)

  • Introduction to measurement.

  • Understands the concept of morning, afternoon, and night.

Language Development:

  • Uses language effectively to express wants and needs.

  • Can speak in sentences using 6 words or more.

  • Can recognize letters and familiar words.

  • Uses rhyming words.

  • Gaining more phonemic awareness.

  • Is asking a lot of questions with detail.

  • Enjoys sharing information with adults and other children.

  • Tells stories and can explain what is happening.

 Motor Development:

  • Gaining control over large motor skills by walking a straight line, walking backwards, running, skipping, hoping on one foot, jumping, throwing and catching a ball, & climbing.

  • Able to line up and follow the leader in a line.

  • Gaining control over small motor skills by cutting a straight line, printing name with a pencil, thread small beads on a string, form recognizable shapes out of modeling clay, etc.

  • Learning how to tie, button, snap, zip, and buckle different items.

  • Hold the pencil properly and write firmly without help.

 Science:

  • Exploring different areas of discovery in physical, biological, and environmental sciences.

  • Experimenting in different areas of discovery in physical, biological, and environmental sciences.

  • Process and think about the world around them.

  • Questions asked, observations made, and conclusions discovered about various topics and experiments.

  • Reasoning, problem-solving, & teamwork.

Spiritual Development:

  • Listens to Bible truths & responds to questions relating to Bible truth

  • Recalls and retells Bible truth.

  • Able to act out the Bible truth.

  • Remembers key people from Bible.

  • Sings Bible songs relating to Bible truth.

  • Memorizes Bible Verse each week.

  • Knows God is the creator of all things.

  • Prays before meals, during circle time, and for friends.

  • Knows Jesus is God’s son and God loves us so much He sent His son to die for our sins.

  • Knows that just as God loves us, we need to show love to one another through our words and actions.
